A coil rack, also called a coil chock or coil bunk, is what holds a steel coil in position so it cannot roll across the deck. This is the heavy version: 40" of welded steel carrying six chocks in three opposing pairs, which give three cradle widths — 17", 25 1/2" and 35". One rack covers a range of coil sizes instead of a single one.
The chocks do not touch the coil. They hold the timbers. You lay a wood beam into the pair of chocks that matches the coil you are hauling, and the angled faces seat it leaning rather than flat, so the beam stays put while you set the load. The coil then rests on the timbers, and the spacing you chose is what decides how the coil sits.
Run a rubber friction pad under the rack. That is what stops the whole assembly creeping on the deck under braking, and on a palletized coil FMCSA requires the pad between pallet and deck anyway. Then chain across the top of the coil. The rack positions the load; it does not restrain it against road forces on its own.
At 14.1 lbs it is roughly three times the weight of our 33" half-saddle rack, on a wider base plate. Figure roughly one rack per 10,000 lbs of coil, set at both ends.
