CORNER & EDGE PROTECTION

Everything on this page sits between the tie-down and the freight, so the two do not destroy each other. A strap under tension cuts into a square edge; a chain crushes a corner and the corner saws back at the chain. A protector spreads that load across a wider face and both survive the trip.

Which material you need follows the tie-down, not the freight. Plastic V-shaped protectors are for webbing — ratchet and winch straps over lumber, crates and packaged freight. Steel protectors, plain or rubber-lined, are chain hardware: a chain concentrates far more force on a smaller contact patch than webbing does, and plastic will not survive under it. The rubber lining adds grip so the protector stays where you put it while the load settles.

The 8 ft extension handle exists because the protector you need to place is usually at the top of a load you cannot reach. It seats a V-shaped protector over an edge from ground level, which beats climbing on the freight.

Moving blankets do the same job in a softer form. They go between pieces of freight that would rub, and under a tarp on bare steel where a coil edge would otherwise work through the vinyl.
