A tire thumper is the fastest check on a walkaround. Knock each tire and listen: a tire at pressure kicks the bat back with a solid thump, and a flat or low one gives a dead thud. It earns its keep on duals, where a flat inside tire sits behind a full outside one and looks fine at a glance. Across 18 tires, the knock takes less time than finding your gauge.
Treat it as a go or no-go check. A thumper finds the tire that is way down; it can't tell 95 psi from 110. Put a number on every tire with a gauge, cold, on a schedule. The sound takes a few tires to learn: thump a good one and a low one side by side.
