Super single tire chains for 445/50-22.5 and 455/50-22.5, the wide single tire that takes the place of a set of duals. A standard dual chain comes up short on that width, so this ladder-style chain is sized for it. One set chains both sides of one axle. On a tandem-drive tractor running super singles, Colorado's chain law wants all four drive tires chained, which means two sets.
Fit them before the weather turns, with the cams on the outside of the wheel. Roll 50 to 100 feet, stop and tighten again, because the truck's weight settles the chain that fast. The cams only pull in the slack they can reach, and once you're rolling the rest lets the chain shift and slap against the fender. That orange spider in our photo is the fix: a bungee on each wheel takes up what the cams leave and holds the chain tight to the tire.
The round twist links meet the NACM standard that state chain laws point to. Pull the chains once the road is clear, since bare pavement wears down the steel and that wide tread with it.
Each set comes double-bagged, heavy plastic inside thick canvas, so a set you don't use this winter stays dry in the truck until the next one. Dry the chains before they go back in after a chain-up.
