About This Product
A pipe stake drops into the flatbed's stake pocket and builds a wall along the deck edge, so a load of pipe has something to sit against instead of the open side of the trailer. This one is 4'6" of 9-gauge steel tube, 2.375" outer diameter, ending in a 6" flattened bottom sized for pockets with at least a 3" x 1.5" opening.
Drivers run them four to a truck, two per side, and the usual setup is to pull opposing stakes toward each other with chain and a binder run low across the deck. That is what turns a row of stakes into a wall. Trailers and loads differ, so take that as the common method rather than the only one.
If you load at a pipe mill, you already know the picture. Texas runs a lot of pipe, and a driver picking up there is expected to arrive with his own stakes in the rack, not to find a set waiting at the gate.
Stakes on their own do not secure anything — they contain. Chain and binders do the securing, and the DOT count is still the DOT count. Check your pocket dimensions before ordering: stake pockets vary between trailer builds, and a stake that does not seat fully will not hold once the load starts working.

Containment, Not a Tiedown
Stakes contain a load. They do not secure it, and they carry no working load limit. Chain and binders do the securing, and the DOT tie-down count still applies. Check that the stake seats fully in the pocket before loading. Pocket dimensions vary between trailer builds.

“Got 2 4ft tarps and 2 8ft tarps for my husband’s birthday since he drives a flatbed. It’s been a while now, and he’s been using them non-stop—says they’re the best tarps he’s ever had. They seriously withstand everything! Super tough and still look like new.”
“Great shop for trucking equipment and supplies! Excellent selection, top-notch quality, and competitive prices. The staff is super helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommend for anyone in the trucking industry!”
Colorado's chain carry law is on until May 31
Semis on I-70 and six other mountain routes must carry chains. When the chain law is in effect, you chain four drive tires. That's two sets.
