A spider bungee is the tire chain tensioner that finishes a chain-up. Drivers also call it a tire chain bungee or a chain tightener; it's the same part. The cam locks pull in only the slack they can reach, so a chain that looks tight in the lot still shifts once the wheel turns, slaps the fender and tears up mud flaps. Six rubber arms on a steel ring pull the chain in from all sides and hold it against the tread.
Hang it on the outside of the wheel after the cams are closed. Spread the six hooks around the chain, each one facing away from the tire so it can't rub the sidewall. Hook the link beside a cam lock, never the lock itself. Roll 50 to 100 feet, stop, and check the chain and the bungee again.
One bungee goes on each chained wheel, so a pair matches one set of chains. It fits 22.5 and 24.5 wheels, super single 445/50-22.5 included, because the wheel size decides the fit, not the tire's width. Running two sets for Colorado? Take two pairs. It's the cheapest part of the chain-up and the easiest one to leave at home.
